Being skinny is not beautiful but being healthy is.Most young people,unfortunately,(25)    (convince) that being thin,and therefore being stylish is a major way of maintaining self-worth.To make the matter worse,they might take this so far that they are likely to end up (26)     eating disorders.
Eating disorders are psychological illnesses defined by abnormal eating habits,(27)     may involve either insufficient or too much food intake to the damage of an individual's physical and mental health.Bulimia nervosa(暴食症) and anorexia nervosa(食欲匮乏) are the (28)    (common) forms of eating disorders.
              (29)     diagnosed with anorexia nervosa are well under a healthy bodyweight.But patients with bulimia nervosa may have a body weight that falls within the range from normal to overweight.(30)     primarily thought of as affecting females,eating disorders influence males as well.
The precise cause of eating disorders is not entirely understood,but (31)     is agreed that the disease is linked to other medical conditions and situations.Besides,cultural idealization of thinness and youthfulness also contributes to (32)    (reduce) weight forcefully.The problem has affected a large population worldwide.
            • 2. The production of coffee beans is a huge,profitable business,but,unfortunately,full-sun production is taking over the industry and bringing about a lot of damage.The change in how coffee is grown from shade-grown production to full-sun production endangers the very existence of,certain animals and birds,and even disturbs the world’s ecological balance.
On a local level,the damage of the forest required by full-sun fields affects the area’s birds and animals.The shade of the forest trees provides a home for birds and other special(物种) that depend on the trees’flowers and fruits.Full-sun coffee growers destroy this forest home.As a result,many special are quickly dying out.
On a more global level,the destruction of the rainforest for full-sun coffee fields also threatens(威胁)human life.Medical research often makes use of the forests'plant and animal life,and the destruction of such species could prevent researchers from finding cures for certain diseases.In addition,new coffee-growing techniques are poisoning the water locally,and eventually the world's groundwater.
Both locally and globally,the continued spread of full-sun coffee plantations (种植园)could mean the destruction of the rainforest ecology.The loss of shade trees is already causing a slight change in the world's climate,and studies show that loss of oxygen-giving trees also leads to air pollution and global warming.Moreover,the new growing techniques are contributing to acidic(酸性的) soil conditions.
It is obvious that the way much coffee is grown affects many aspects many aspects of life,from the local environment to the global ecology.But consumers do have a choice.They can purchase shade-grown coffee whenever possible,although at a higher cost.The future health of the planet and mankind is surely worth more than an inexpensive cup of coffee.

54.What can we learn about full-sun coffee production from Paragraph 4?
A.It limits the spread of new growing techniques.
B.It leads to air pollution and global warming.
C.It slows down the loss of shade trees.
              D.It improves local soil conditions.

            • 3. Using too much water or throwing rubbish into our rivers are clear ways that humans can put our water supply in danger,but we also affect our water supply in less obvious ways.You may wonder how paving(铺砌) a road can lead to less useable fresh water.A major part of the water we use every day is groundwater.Groundwater does not come from lakes or rivers.It come from underground.The more roads and parking lots we pave,the less water can flow into the ground to become groundwater.
Human activity is not responsible for all water shortages(短缺).Driver climates are of course more likely to have droughts(干旱) than areas with more rainfall,but in any case,good management can help to make sure there is enough water to meet our basic needs.
Thinking about the way we use water every day can make a big difference,too.In the United States,a family of four can use 1.5tons of water a day!This shows how much we depend on water to live,but there’s a lot we can do to lower the number.
You can take steps to save water in your home.To start with,use the same glass for your drinking water all day.Wash it only once a day.Run your dishwasher (洗碗机)only when it is full.Help your parents fix any leaks in your home.You can even help to keep our water supply clean by recycling batteries instead of throwing them away.

60.Which of the following is most likely to lead to less groundwater?
              A.Using river water.

C.There is much we can do to reduce family size.
D.The average family in America makes proper use of water.

A.show us how to fix leaks at home

Every year more people recognize that it is wrong to kill wildlife for "sport." Progress in this direction
is slow because shooting is not a sport for watching, and only those few who take part realize the cruelty
              and destruction.
The number of gunners, however, grows rapidly. Children too young to develop proper judgments
through independent thought are led along way away by their gunning parents. They are subjected to
advertisements of gun producers who describe shooting as good for their health and guncarrying as a way
of putting redder blood in the veins (血管). They are persuaded by gunner magazines with stories honoring
the chase and the kill. In school they view motion pictures which are supposedly meant to teach them how
to deal with arms safely but which are actually designed to stimulate (刺激) a desire to own a gun. Wildlife
is disappearing because of shooting and because of the loss of wildland habitat (栖息地). Habitat loss will
continue with our increasing population, but can we slow the loss of wildlife caused by shooting? There
doesn't seem to be any chance if the serious condition of our birds is not improved.
Wildlife belongs to everyone and not to the gunners alone. Although most people do not shoot, they seem
to forgive shooting for sport because they know little or nothing about it. The only answer, then, is to bring
the truth about sport shooting to the great majority of people.
Now, it is time to realize that animals have the same right to life as we do and that there is nothing fair or
right about a person with a gun shooting the harmless and beautiful creatures. The gunners like to describe
what they do as character-building, but we know that to wound an animal and watch it go through the agony
of dying can make nobody happy. If, as they would have you believe, gun-carrying and killing improve human-
character, then perhaps we should encourage war.
              1. According to the text, most people do not seem to be against hunting because _____.
              A. they have little knowledge of it
              B. it helps to build human character
              C. it is too costly to stop killing wildlife
              D. they want to keep wildlife under control
              2. The underlined word "agony" in the last paragraph probably means _____.
              A. form
              B. condition
              C. pain
              D. sadness
              3. According to the text, the films children watch at school actually _____.
              A. teach them how to deal with guns safely
              B. praise hunting as character-building
              C. describe hunting as an exercise
              D. encourage them to have guns of their own
              4. It can be inferred from the text that the author seems to _____.
              A. blame the majority of people
              B. worry about the existence of wildlife
              C. be in favour of war
              D. be in support of character-building

Your body, which has close relations with the food you eat, is the most important thing you
own, so it needs proper treatment and proper nourishment (营养).The old saying "An apple a
day keeps the doctor away "is not as silly as some people think. The body needs fruit and
vegetables because they contain vitamin C. Many people take extra vitamins in pill form,
believing that these will make them healthy.
But a good diet is made up of nourishing food and this gives all the vitamins you need. The
body doesn't need or use extra vitamins, so why waste money on them?
In the modern western world, many people are too busy to bother about eating properly.
They  throw anything into their stomachs, eating hurriedly and carelessly. The list of illnesses
caused or made worse by bad eating habits is frightening.
              1. "Your body has close relations with the food you eat." It really means that ______.
              A. all kinds of food you eat can be made into your body
              B. your body is made up of the food you eat
              C. what you eat has great effect on your health
              D. the more you eat, the fitter you will feel
              2. In the modern western countries ______.
              A. people don't want to pay more attention to their eating
              B. lots of people's illnesses are caused or made worse by bad eating habits
              C. people throw everything into their stomachs without chewing
              D. people are only too busy to cook meals for themselves
              3. From the passage we can draw a conclusion that if we want to keep healthy, we should ______.
              A. only eat an apple a day
              B. eat properly
              C. take as many vitamin pills as possible
              D. throw something into our stomachs slowly and carefully

The food we eat seems to have a great effect on our health. Although science has made big steps in
making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has
shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is
related to food as well. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers
realized that things commonly used to keep colour in meats and other food additives (添加剂) caused
              cancer.
Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings (包
装) of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give
penicillin to their animals, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes
similar tings are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit.
The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market.
Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.

              B. perhaps most kinds of cancer are related to what people eat
              C. cancer was discovered in 1945

              Dear Editor (编辑),
I used to be a doctor in a children's hospital. Sometimes I treated children who had been poisoned (中毒)
by medicines for older family members. The children didn't know the medicine was dangerous; they just knew
it tasted sweet. Children easily opened the bottle that we now use in China.
Some days ago I talked about medicine with an American. He showed me a kind of plastic bottle. The
design was very quite simple and I'm sure our Chinese factories could produce these bottles. The top of the
bottle locks but can be opened by pressing down on it while turning. This is difficult for most young children
to do, though grown-ups can open these bottles very easily.
I'm certain that the price of making such tops would be very low. As a doctor, I'd love to see this done.
And most parents would be grateful.
                                                                                                                                                             Yours,

On a rainy day, you will see many streams of muddy (多泥的) water running down the slopes (山坡) of
a hill. The water is muddy because it washes away soil from the hill slopes.
Sometimes soil is blown away by strong winds. When the soil is carried away by water or wind, we say
that the land is eroded (侵蚀). This is known as soil erosion.
Plants cannot grow on eroded land. There is not enough soil on eroded land to give them the things they
need. Plants need water and salts from the soil.
We can do a number of things to stop soil erosion. This is called soil conservation (保护).
One way of soil conservation on flat, open ground is to grow small plants such as grasses. Their roots
hold the soil tightly together. Another way is to plant trees around an open field. Thus soil erosion by strong
winds cannot take place. Rows of trees act as a very big wall.
Soil erosion on slopes can be stopped by cutting "steps" called terraces (梯田). Water carrying soil cannot
run straight down the slope now. It has to run down the terraces. This slows down the flow of the water.
Most of the soil in the water is left behind on the terraces.
There are some other ways of soil conservation.
              1. On a rainy day the water running down the slopes of a hill is muddy because _____.
              [     ]

              A. there is no terrace on the slopes
              B. there is no small plant on the slopes
              C. it washes away soil from the slopes
              D. there is too much soil on the slopes
              2. Plants cannot grow on eroded land because _____.
              [     ]

              A. there is a lot of sand
              B. there is not enough water and salts
              C. there is no water
              D. the land is too hard
              3. One way of soil conservation on flat, open ground is _____.
              [     ]

              A. to grow small plants such as grasses
              B. to plant trees around an open field
              C. to add fertilizer to the soil
              D. A and B
              4. From the passage we learn that there are _____ ways to reserve soil.

But beyond just looking dirty, a filthy (肮脏) keyboard might actually make you sick.
A 2008 study showed that keyboards can be up to five times dirtier than the average toilet seat. How come?
Too often, people don't 2_____ to wash their hands after using the restroom or eating at their desks. In the
latter case, sticky fingers transfer sauces and crumbs (食物碎屑)onto and between the keys. Also, our fingers
rub skin oils onto the keys. Thus, a keyboard can become a 3_____ place for germs to grow.
One common bug that researchers have found is staphylococcus aureus (金黄色葡萄球菌). It is a classic
cause of food 4_____, signs of which include nausea (恶心) and diarrhea (腹泻). Stomach sicknesses caused
by typing on a dirty keyboard have been dubbed "qwerty tummy" after the "Q-W-E-R-T-Y" keys on a
              keyboard.
The threat posed by a dirty keyboard is quite real, but it can be 5_____. The easiest way is to clean your
keyboard regularly. Office cleaning 6_____ say that keyboards should be unplugged, turned upside down and
shaken 7_____. By doing so, you can get rid of most of the crumbs. After that, wipe across the keys using a
soft cloth with a cleaning solution (清洁剂). Another way to solve the problem is using a silicon (硅胶)
keyboard cover. These thin covers are made to 8_____ over the keys. They prevent food from falling through
the cracks and dust from 9_____.
