Think for a moment about the teachers youˈve had at junior or senior high school. Which one did you like best? And why? Were the teachers you liked best also the ones who were the best teachers, in your opinion?  (1)  And then begin to read further.

Some very common answers to this question are that teachers need to love their students, that they need to have expert knowledge of their subjects and that they should devote themselves completely to their work. All of these ideas are, of course, true to a certain extent.   (2)

Itˈs impossible for anyone to love everyone he knows, and teachers deal with a very large number of students over the years. On the other hand, teachers should certainly be able to make their students feel that theyˈre interested in them as people.  (3)  A deep knowledge of the subject is especially important.   (4)  Thatˈs to say, a teacher needs to be trained in the skills of teaching. These skills include how to control a class. Finally, teachers have to devote a lot of time and energy to their work, of course.  However, because theyˈre also models that their students must follow, itˈs important that they should be well-balanced people with interests outside their school work-families, friends, hobbies, etc.  (5)

              (1) A. Theyˈre perhaps a little too simple.

              B. Students ask too much from teachers.

              C. Well-qualified teachers should be educated and capable.

              D. Consider for a minute the qualities that make a teacher outstanding.

              E. A teacher who only lives for work is likely to become narrow-minded.

              F. Equally important is the ability to pass that knowledge on to the students effectively.

              G. They also pay attention to the development of both their brains and their characters.

You often find somebody who works around you complaining all the time, don’t you?

                (1)   About 70% of Americans say being around nonstop complainers sometimes has a bad influence on them. Luckily, here are 4 tips to help form positive patterns.

              1, Self-awareness

When a negative thought pops into your mind, immediately correct it. Instead of telling yourself “That’s a nice shirt, but I can’t afford it,” change the message to “That will look great with my black pants when I can afford it.”  (2)

Of course, everyone complains sometimes. But the less frequently you complain, the better you will feel.

              2,Distance yourself

                (3)  Excuse yourself and go somewhere quiet, somewhere outdoors in the fresh air. Think of something pleasant before returning. You have to take this seriously because negative people can and will pull you into the quicksand (困境).

3, Don’t try to change complainers

If you find yourself trapped in a group of complainers in a meeting or at a social event, simply choose silence. Let their words bounce (弹起) off you while you think of something else. Attempting to stop the complaining can make you a target.   (4)   If someone says, “I hate Mondays, weekends are too short,” try to think, “I’m glad I rested up over the weekend, so I’m ready to make some improvement on that big project.”

              4,  (5)

When someone is shouting at you angrily, throw the responsibility back at them by asking, “So what do you intend to do about it?” In most cases, complainers don’t really want a solution. They just want to speak them out. If you make them aware that they themselves have to find the solutions, they will leave you alone and find someone else to complain to. If so, you will be happy.

              (1) A. Change responsibility

              B. Find solutions

              C. You have got a lot of company.

              D. By doing this, it will lead to positive behaviors.

              E. But you can redirect the discussion in your own mind.

              F. You will never know what they are going to talk about.

              G. Whenever possible, escape from negative conversations.

              (2) A. Change responsibility

              B. Find solutions

If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping, I would have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insect bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me.   (1)

The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer.   (2)   We slept in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the doctor’s bill for my son’s food poisoning.

I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness.   (3)   Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life.

                (4)   We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The trailer even has matching carpet and curtains.

                (5)   It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend that you find your way in style.

Learning English can be a difficult task. While many people learn English in the classroom, the vast majority of English learning takes place outside of it.

__  (1)  __,it is important to know how it is used in everyday life. One of the best things you can do is to read. First ask yourself what you enjoy reading in your native language. If the subject matter is interesting to you, you will be more likely to keep going.

Read a variety of different media in English, from magazines to novels.__  (2)  __. NewYork Times is going to take a more formal approach to the English language than somebodyˈs personal blog.

Consider your English level when selecting reading material.__  (3)  __,but do not frustrate yourself needlessly by selecting a complex text. Instead, rely on what you have already known. When you come across a difficult word or phrase, use context clues to guess at its meaning. Write down or underline any words or phrases you cannot figure out. When you have finished reading, go to your list of new words. Now you can get your dictionary and look them up one by one. __  (5)  __. You will be more likely to keep reading the interesting subject.

              (40) ______
Find out how much you remember certain things and what's missing.Decide what you did well in and what you did not so well in.This may boost your chances of getting more marks in the assessment and may also help you remember for next time. For instance,if you are struggling on maths problems based on geometry, then put this down as something that you need to review more than the subjects you are good at.
              Review often but little.
Do not push yourself and try reviewing everything in one day.Practice takes time and if you rush, you won't remember anything.

A.Go through what you have been learning.
              B.Mark your practice tests.
C.As long as you remain focused on the main topics, you will be able to do well on the test.

We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle.(17) ______ Mental exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about.(18) ______ If,on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do,they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.
              (19) ______ According to some psychologists,if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive (helpful) things to their children, such as"That was a very clever thing you did."or".(20) ______ "

We all have our favourite teachers — those who treat us equally. But what about those teachers we donˈt know as well (for even donˈt like much)?

You can do lots of things to get a relation with your teacher. First, do the following:   (1)  Complete all homework on time. Be attentive, be respectful, and ask questions.  (2)   Obviously, your teachers are really interested in their subjects or they wouldnˈt have decided to teach them! Show the teacher that you care, even if youˈre not good at math or fluent in French — send the message that you are a dedicated student.

You can also schedule a private meeting during a teacherˈs free period.   (3)  You can ask questions, inquire about a career in the subject, or talk about your progress in class. You may be surprised to learn that your teacher is a bit more relaxed one on one than when lecturing in front of the whole class.

However, here are some things to avoid when trying to establish a relationship with your teacher:

                (4)  Teachers sense when your only motivation is to get special treatment, a college reference, or a job suggestion.

Trying to be teachersˈ pet. You just attract the teachersˈ attention on purpose and your classmates may start to hate you.

                (5)   Itˈs OK to offer a small sign of thanks to teachers if theyˈve been helpful to you. But a teacher is usually not allowed to accept the wrong message, and a teacher is usually not allowed to accept anything expensive.

              (1) A. Giving expensive gifts.

              B. Show up for class on time.

              C. Not being sincere.

              D. Find the practical value in classes.

              E. Use this time to get extra help.

              F. Show an interest in the subject.

              G. Get along better with your teachers.
