The other day I decided to teach my son about the power of small acts of kindness. He had won some lollies(棒棒糖) in a prize machine in the local supermarket, so I asked him if he would like to   46   his prizes with another child. He hesitated(犹豫) for a while because he is a(n)   47   boy, but said yes after I   48   him a bit.

A father and his daughter were   49  . I approached the father and asked if my son could give his   50   a lolly that he had won. The father looked at me in   51   and was unsure what to say. I   52   explained that I was teaching my son about the power of kindness. Eventually he said it was okay.

53  , his daughter, who was looking at us sideways(侧向一边地),   54   accept the lolly! At this moment, my son was rather embarrassed(尴尬) and then he   55   to me, “We go to the same   56  , Mum.”

Rather than say sorry to my son for embarrassing him and give up this   57  , I put a couple of lollies into their shopping bags and   58   them a great day!

When we left the supermarket, I   59   to my son, “People in the world today are not so open to   60   because their thoughts and opinions have been   61   by the past. However, we can reshape their opinions by   62   small acts of kindness. So don’t be embarrassed. Hey, they may have been standoffish(冷淡的), but I’m sure we left them   63  , moved and inspired in some way. Not only that,   64   the young girl will probably remember you as the boy with a   65   heart when she comes across you at school!”

              阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

I ran into a stranger as he passed by. “I’m so sorry!” was my reply. Then he said. “Excuse me too——I wasn’t    36  watching  for you.” We were very polite, this stranger and I. Then we went   37 our way after saying goodbye.

But at   38   , a different story is told. How we treat our loved ones, young and old. Later in the kitchen, as I   39   our meal, my daughter walked up to me, very still. When I turned, I   40   knocked her down. “Get out of the way!” I shouted with a frown(皱眉头). She stepped away silently, with her little heart   41   . I didn’t realize how harshly I had spoken.

That night, when I lay   42   in bed, God’s quiet voice spoke to me, “While   43   with a stranger, you are calm and polite, but with those you love, you are QUICK to excite—Go look around on the kitchen floor, you will find some flowers there by the   44  . Those are the flowers she brought for you. She   45   them herself—pink, yellow, and your favorite blue. She stood there quietly, and you never saw the   46   in her eyes.”

By this time, I felt sad and small and now my own tears had begun to fall. I quietly went and knelt by her   47   , “Wake up, my dear,” I said. “Are these the flowers you picked up for me?” She smiled, “I found them out by the tree. I   48   them in a napkin, just for you. I knew you’d like them, especially the   49   .” I said, “I am so sorry that I missed them today—and I   50   have fussed(发牢骚)at you that way.”

And she whispered, “Mommy, that’s Ok—I still love you   51   .”I hugged her and said, “I love you too, and I love the flowers.”

Do you know that: if you die tomorrow, the   52   you are working for could easily replace you in a matter of days. But the family you leave   53   will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into our   54   than into our families—an unwise investment indeed.

              Remember that   55   =(F)ATHER—(A)ND—(M)OTHER—(I)—(L)OVE—Y(OU).

James shook his money box again. Nothing! He carefully   36  the coins that lay on the bed. $24.52 was all that he had. The bicycle he wanted was $90!  37   on earth was he going to get the   38  of the money? He knew that his friends all had bicycles. He decided to ask Mr Clay for advice, who usually had    __44  in most things. "Well, you can start right here," said Mr Clay. "My windows need cleaning and my car needs washing." That was the  45  of James’s odd-job (零工) business. For three months he worked every day after finishing his homework. He was surprised by the  46   jobs that people found for him to do. He took dogs and babies for walks, cleared out cupboards, and mended books. He lost count of the   47  of cars he washed and windows he cleaned, but the  48  increased and he knew that he would soon have  49  for the bicycle he was dying for. The day   50   came when James counted his money and found $94.32. He   51  no time and went down to the shop to pick up the bicycle he wanted. He rode   52   home, looking forward to showing his new bicycle to his friends. It had been hard   53  for the money, but James knew that he valued (重视) his bicycle far more 54   he had bought it with his own money. He had   55  what he thought was impossible, and that was worth even more than the bicycle.
