When a homeless man named Marcus wandered into Abigail’s Café, begging for spare change, he didn’t get turned away. Looking at the man, the owner Abigail asked, “Why don’t you have a   (1)  ?You know nothing is given to me for free.” Marcus  (2)   that he had “a lot of crimes”. Because of his  (3)   , no one wanted to hire him, so he made money the only way he knew:  (4)   money.

Although the young owner had hit some hard times for her café, Abigail was  (5)   of hands that day and then decided to  (6)   Marcus the task of washing dishes. “His  (7)   opened wide and his smile made my   (8)   !”She wrote on Facebook.

“Hesaid he would do  (9)   to get some food.” For the past two weeks, Marcus has been on time every day for his  (10)   of working for two hours when he washes dishes. He uses the money he earns to  (11)   his own food at the restaurant,  (12)   to take it for free.

“A lot of people are saying that I’ve been a blessing for him.  (13)  , at that point I was the one who needed a blessing,” Abigail said. Her post(帖子) has earned a lot of attention with plenty of  (14)   on the Internet. Because many people have asked  (15)   they can help people like Marcus, she  (16)   a GoFundMe page. “The hope,” she said, “is to create more opportunities for Marcus  (17)   others in the community.”

Abigail shared the story, hoping that people might be moved to help a  (18)   , too. “Do something nice for whoever may not be familiar to us and don’t  (19)   them just because they go out there begging for money, for we don’t know their real   (20)   . They deserve another chance.”

“Paul must have been trying to carry his waste paper to garbage can and dropped a few pieces.” I  (1)  ,picking them up.   (2)  later I found more pieces. No quiet sighing this time. I   (3)  ,“Who is throwing garbage?” No answer. Instead, I saw more bits of paper silently floating  (4)  from upstairs. Looking up, I saw my seven-year-old son, Paul.

“Stop making a mess.” “It’s not a mess. They’re  (5)   .” “Sorry, what did you say?” I hadn’t heard him clearly.

He didn’t answer me. Paul has autism (自闭症) and  (6)  answers a question, especially when he’s   (7)  attentively on something else. He ran down the stairs. “Where are my other butterflies?” he asked,  (8)  around. Every time Paul   (9)  five or more words together, my heart says a   (10)  of thanks. But lately he seems to   (11)  that the benefits of forming complete sentences when communicating are  (12)  of the effort.

Butterflies. Of course. I rushed to  (13)  them from the garbage,  (14)  them off and handed them to my young artist. “Want to see them  (15)  again?” he asked with a shy smile. “Oh yes! They’re beautiful.” I whispered. He ran back upstairs to float his   (16)   down again. They really did look like beautiful butterflies.

That day Paul   (17)  me to look up at   (18)  instead of down at garbage. How many other masterpieces (杰作) do I miss because I’m too caught up in my   (19)  to take time to appreciate what’s right in front of me? Life is not what happens to us. It’s   (20)  we look at it. Now, I look up.

Life was hard, and Cam was broke as he had lost his job as a DJ. He had no cash on him but a brand-new dollar bill with all the autographs (亲笔签名) of the Opry stars, which he      (1)   carefully and carried with him always.

One morning, he saw a young man   (2)   quietly in an old yellow Dodge in the parking lot. Cam waved to him and drove away. When he went back to the parking lot that night, he noticed the car again, parked in the   (3)   space. This car had not moved.

The next morning, as Cam walked near the car, the man  (4)  his window down,    (5)   himself and said he had been in his car for days with no money or food. Then, very   (6)  , the man asked if he might borrow a dollar for a snack to get him by until the next day. Cam explained his   (7)   that he didn't have a dollar to lend him. He walked to his car, wishing he could have  (8)   him.

Then Cam suddenly   (9)   his Grand Ole Opry dollar. He   (10)   with his conscience(良心) a minute or two, pulled his wallet out and   (11)   the bill. Then he walked back to the man and gave him his   (12)  dollar, “Somebody has   (13)   all over this,” the man said, but he didn't notice that the writing was dozens of   (14)  . He took the bill.

That very morning when Cam was back home trying not to   (15)  what he had done, things began to happen. The phone rang; a recording studio wanted him to do a commercial that paid $ 500, which   (16)   like a million. In the next few days more   (17)   came to him out of nowhere. Good things kept coming    (18)  .

Cam   (19)   saw the man in the old yellow Dodge again. But whether the guy was a

                (20)   or an angel doesn't matter.

              The Write Feeling

Growing up in a military family, I moved a lot. I mostly went to __  (1)  __ with other kids whose parents were also in the military. But when my dad __  (2)  _ from the Marines after twenty years of service, I found myself __  (3)  __ a civilian school with twelve-year-olds who shared no similar life experience with me.

I was a stranger in a strange land. Everyone in my class had grown up together, and they had no room to _  (4)  _ for a newcomer. I wore different clothes, had different thoughts, and spoke with an accent. I __  (5)  _ for the first few weeks of school. I had no friends, no activities, and no __  (6)  __ of a bright future. To deal with it all, I began __  (7)  __ in my diary every day---stories of adventure, of old friends, of feelings that I could not speak. I wrote as if my life depended on it, as if the very next breath I took could not happen __  (8)  __ I wrote down words.

One day, my teacher, Mrs. Bush, came to me and asked why I always sat there writing instead of playing with others. I told her I enjoyed writing and __  (9)  __ writing to playing. She smiled at me and walked away. About three weeks later, Mrs. Bush gave us a writing assignment. I was __  (10)  _ that I could now participate in something I knew I excelled in.

That night I worked and worked on the essay. I wrote with great __  (11)  __. It was my one chance to feel important and _  (12)  _ by the class.

A few days after we handed in our assignments, Mrs. Bush called me up to the __  (13)  __ of the classroom. I stood before thirty pairs of eyes looking at me, and I got __  (14)  __. Was I in trouble? Did I do something wrong?

Then Mrs. Bush told the class how much she __  (15)  _ all the work that went into the essay and everyone had done a great job. But, she said, one student stood __  (16)  _ as an excellent writer, one with imagination, creativity, and word mastery. That student was me!

The class clapped politely and Mrs. Bush handed me my paper, with the following __  (17)  __ on it:"Malinda, you are an excellent writer. You fill your paper with the breathings of your heart. Please keep on writing and share your __  (18)  _ of writing with the world. I am proud of you and glad you are in my class."

Mrs. Bush helped me feel a sense of __  (19)  __, a place of purpose, and a way to survive a

transition in life. She helped me gain __  (20)  __ in myself that stayed with me beyond sixth grade.

I was always complaining about wind or rain.   (1)   it was nothing unusual for the arrival of wind or rain, it caused inconvenience for me to go out, and sometimes it even created an awful atmosphere, so I   (2)   it strongly.

On a rainy day a meteorologist (气象学家) I met was very   (3)   at my great anger caused by rain that made a little inconvenience for me.

He asked, “Have you ever seen typhoon? Do you know what would happen to the world if there were no typhoon?” I shook my head. I had no   (4)   of how overwhelming it was when it   (5)   everything away in its way.

“Well, let me tell you,” the meteorologist said.  “Without it the   (6)   of fresh water will be more serious, for it is a great   (7)   of water supply on earth. Without it, there would be a greater imbalance in the distribution of   (8)  . The equatorial area that receives the most sunshine on earth   (9)   entirely on typhoon to disperse (驱散) heat. Without typhoon the tropics would be even   (10)   while the frigid zones much colder. As a result the temperate zones would   (11)   from the world...”

Ignorance made me   (12)  . I disliked wind only because it ruffled (吹乱) my hair. I hated rain merely because I had to carry an umbrella. But I had no idea at all that typhoon---something much more violent, something a thousand times more   (13)   than wind or rain---was a   (14)   to the existence of mankind.

                (15)   no road on earth goes all the way on level ground, there’s no person in the world who can do whatever he pleases.   (16)   as it is for people to guard against typhoon, it is advisable for a man to stop   (17)   for a moment before he complains.  “  (18)   typhoon disappeared all together? What would the world become then?” The   (19)   will keep him calm and lead him closer to truth - he will be better   (20)   of the world he lives in.

If you want to stand out, there is no alternative but hard work.

Once a boy in   41   clothes full of patches(补丁) ran to ask a successful building contractor (承包商) in a construction site, “How could I become as   42   as you when I grow up?”

With a   43   at the boy, the contractor replied,“There is a story about three diggers .The first digger liked holding a spade(铁锹)without doing anything but saying that he wanted to be a (n)  44   in the future. The second always liked   45   about the work and his low   46  . The third digger liked   47   devoting himself to digging. Later, the first was still holding his spade in the 48   place and the second took an excuse for early   49  . Only the third became a boss. Do you understand the   50   of this story? Just go to buy a   51   shirt and work hard.”

The little boy was   52  . So he asked the contractor to explain further.   53   the working builders, the contractor replied, “Look at my workers! I can’t remember all their names, and even I have no   54   of some of them. Most of them wear blue shirts. But if you look   55  , you will notice a sunburned man in red. He seems to be working harder than others. He is always the first one to work while the last one to leave. It is exactly his red shirt that makes him   56  . Soon he will be 57   to my assistant. You know, that is also how I got   58   I am now. I worked hard and wore a striped shirt. My boss   59   me. I also became a boss eventually.”

Success can only   60   action. Working hard is all winners’ shared experience for achieving their dreams.

              Dear daughter,

Can I tell you a secret?

Being a mother of a teenager is difficult, which   (1)   hits me like a hurricane, sweeping me right up into it.

Not long ago, I myself was a teenage girl. I thought then that I knew   (2)   all, but with each passing year, I   (3)   how little actually I knew. I think being a mother is a kind of wisdom that comes   (4)   age. Maybe this will be your   (5)   too. Maybe you will grow older and realize the same thing   (6)   you will be swept one day into the hurricane of motherhood and know   (7)   what I mean.

My mother and I battled when I was a teenager, as I   (8)   for independence and imagined her somehow my   (9)   rather than my mother. I see now that in each little act, she was telling me I was   (10)  : when she put curlers (卷发夹) into my hair and I fought because I wanted it   (11)  ; when she tried to help me with my school project and I   (12)   because I wanted to do it myself.

Now I see all the love that I   (13)   see then.

I am   (14)   to see how our relationship will be. I can't wait to   (15)   the young woman that God will make you be. I hope in some small ways He uses me to   (16)   you — not just

through hard times and mistakes, but also the way I learn best.

I hope that we do read this   (17)   together, and that we can   (18)   the time when you were so small, sleeping in my arms and we both   (19)   with joy to see each other's face.

Whatever our relationship will be like, whatever challenges we both may   (20)  , remember this: my love for you is deeper than I could have ever imagined.

              Yours,Mum
