Acting is the activity of performing in plays or films. It’s about living an alternative reality. It lets you explore all kinds of possibilities of what you could be. Just being your own self can be boring sometimes, and acting gives you an opportunity to be someone else for a while. It is voluntarily entering the psyche (心灵) of another personality and thinking according to a different set of values and constraints (约束). It lets you explore many parts of you, which you thought never existed. It lets you deeply explore what it means to be a human being.

One of the best ways to begin your own acting studies is to start reading some good plays. Choose your favorite role from one of your favorite plays and prepare to act it out in front of the audience. To learn to act, you must act. Here are some tips on how to become an actor with no experience:

To play a role, you must understand the character that you are going to play with open arms. Understand the plot of the play, as well as the psyche of your character. Understand the conditions in which your character lives. Try to understand why your character behaves in that way. So you must learn the lines or dialogues thoroughly and explore the thought behind every sentence. This will help you picture the circumstances in which the character finds himself/herself. Some actors go as far as “living” as that person for a while, to understand him or her. The idea is to go as close as possible to being that person. More importantly, only through practice can you get close to actually being that person. So seize every chance and perform as frequently as you can. This will help you develop confidence and overcome stage fright.

As a student of acting, you need to always be a sponge (海绵), ready to absorb, learn, and observe the performances of great actors, to learn the slight differences of the art. While you watch movies, plays and any other performance, study the differences of a role played by any actors, especially the masters. By just keeping your eyes open, you can pick up a lot of things.

Why do you want to act? Is it for money, fame, or genuine love for the art? Would you do it if you were not paid for it? If the answer and y our motivation is love for acting, you are sure to eventually succeed.

Is your child wishing for any great after-school activities? If yes, then you should consider dancing as an after-school activity for the kid. From learning a new skill to improving coordination (协调能力) and making new friends, dance school can be the perfect place to develop a kid’s creativity. Besides, song and dance can play an important role in the physical and emotionaldevelopment of the child. Therefore, choosing the right dance school is necessary if you want your child to receive proper training.

There are some things you need to take into consideration when you choose a dance school for your kid. One of them is the dance style. Before you begin your search, try to find out the different dance forms that your child may be interested in. At the dance school, ask about the dance forms they teach. More importantly, while you choose a dance style, don’t forget to involvethe child in the process. While you may love classical dance forms like ballet, the child may be more interested in Latin dance. It’s better to allow him or her to choose the style he or she likes best.

You have to consider the background of the teacher. The teacher should have rich performing and training experience. He or she should be professionally trained in the dance style, and should also have experience of performing with a dependable dance company. Besides knowledge about the dance form, the teacher needs to be caring and patient enough to teach young children.

How many students are there in a dance class? This question should also be considered. When there are too many students, teachers will find it difficult to pay personal attention to each student. This results in poor development of the dance skills. This is especially true for very young children, especially those in preschool, who require close attention. However, when there are less number of students and more space for dancing, the children can get more chances to practice dancing.

Also, don’t ignore the reputation(名气) and the location of the dance school. One of the best ways to know about a dance school is to ask around. Parents whose kids are going to dance classes can provide proper opinions about the school. You can also ask neighbors, friends, and colleagues for advice. On the other hand, how far is the dance school from your home? Will traveling to and from the school affect the child’s study? You also need to look into these important factors when choosing the dance school for your child.

For centuries people dreamed of going into space. This dream began to seem possible when high-flying rockets were built in the early 1900s.

In 1903 a Russian teacher named Konstantin Tsiolkovsky figured out how to use rockets for space travel. His plan was the first one in rocket science to use correct scientific calculation. About 30 years later, a U.S. scientist named Robert Goddard built the first rockets that could reach high altitudes. During World War II, German scientists built large rockets that could travel very far and carry dangerous explosives. After the war, scientists from Germany went to the United States and the Soviet Union to help those countries build space rockets.

These two countries were soon racing to get to space first. Each of these countries wanted to prove that it was stronger and more advanced than the other one. Both countries also had powerful bombs. People in the United States were worried when the Soviets were first to launch a space satellite, which was called Sputnik. The Soviets were also first to send a person into space. Yury Gagarin orbited the earth in the Vostok I spaceship in 1961.

The US government set a goal for its space program to be the first country to put a person on the Moon. The U.S. space program built a series of Apollo spaceship. These vehicles were powered by huge Saturn 5 rockets. In 1969 Apollo II took three men to the moon successfully. Nell Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon.

The Soviets may have lost the race to fly people to the Moon, but they built the first space station in 1971. The United States also built a space station. The space stations allowed people to live and work in space. Then the Soviet Union and the United States cooperated to hook two spaceships together in space. This action ended the "space race". Today a much larger space station, built by several countries together, orbits Earth.

Another new way to go to space is by space shuttle. A space shuttle, first made in the United States in 1981, looks like an airplane. Astronauts who fly spaceships have used shuttles to help put satellites into space.

              Socrates-an ancient Greek philosopher (哲学家)

Socrates was an ancient Greek philosopher, who helped to shape Greek beliefs. The ideas he created are present in our culture today.

Socrates was a person full of curiosity. From the time he was a young man, Socrates searched for wisdom and truth. He gained wisdom by asking questions. Many people in Athens thought that they had answers. Socrates asked them questions and argued with them about different topics. He did not think they had the knowledge they claimed to have.

Socrates challenged false ideas people had about things like justice, love, or courage. He would break down the ideas people held. Then he built new and more accurate ideas. Socrates felt that this was what philosophy was all about. Since then, many great philosophers have used this method to find truth.

Throughout his life, Socrates showed no interest in money. He was also not interested in material items. Socrates would allow groups of men to listen to him speak. And he would never take money from them. He always wore the same clothes whatever the season. Socrates argued that his life was better because he had no material wealth. He felt he enjoyed his food more. he said he was stronger and healthier because he was not affected by the weather. He believed happiness came not from having more but from wanting less.

By the end of the fifth century B.C Athens was not a great city anymore. Politicians betrayed Athens. Socrates had made many people angry over the years. He had always expressed his opinions when he thought laws and policies were wrong. Athens had a new group of political leaders in power, who didnˈt want to hear Socrates‟comments” about them. They thought Socrates had a bad influence on the young people of Athens. Socrates was also accused of not worshipping the right gods. Charges were brought against Socrates. The politicians wanted to condemn Socrates to death. Socrates’friends told him to leave Athens. They thought this was the only way for him to save his life. Socrates refused. He did not behave as most people in his situation would.

Socrates said that he had always lived by the rules of Athens and he would continue to do this. He insisted on standing trial for his "crime". Socrates knew he was not guilty of anything. The reason why he was charged was because he was different from others. Although people respected him, he also had made many people angry, so the jury(陪审团)said Socrates was guilty.

When faced with the death penalty (死刑), a person could leave Athens forever. Most people chose leave rather than die. Socrates was not like most people. Instead of telling the jury that he would go, he told them he deserved a reward. Socrates believed he had done a great service by making people think. Socrates said that he tried to "persuade every one of you not to think of what he had but rather of what he was, and how he might grow wise and good." The jury did not change its mind. Socrates was executed. He died when he drank hemlock, which is poisonous.

Socrates was the first great Greek philosopher. He also helped to shape other philosophers that came after him. Plato, who got his start by studying with Socrates, and Aristotle, who studied with Plato, also changed Western civilization. Asking questions to discover the truth is still practiced today. And schools even today still teach this method to students.

You might believe that happiness comes with having everything you want and that your life requires event-filled days, good nights and wonderful experiences. But thinking this way can really mislead us and result in our looking for happiness in all the wrong places. When we imagine our lives should have these images, our existence can seem boring when in reality our lives are actually quite normal.

If you find that each of your days fades (逐渐消失) into the next, remember: Nothing is wrong with your life! It’s just that in reality —sometimes life is just not that exciting. However, you can do some simple things to shake things up and put some “WOW” into our normal, ordinary days. In other words, to really get the most out of life, we need to learn to make the most out of life.

Doing this is easier and more fun than you might expect. Firstly, you just need to accept a fun challenge. Overcoming (战胜) a challenge helps us feel good. So pick something that you’d like to achieve and set a goal for yourself. Or, take a risk to start something you’ve always wanted to do but have been afraid to try. And when you reach your goal, celebrate it!

Next, notice what a wonderful world you live in. One of the fastest ways to create meaning in your life is to look for things you are thankful for. So call out what you already appreciate at home, at work or with friends. Take a moment during breakfast or dinner to turn to a loved one or friend and tell them one thing you’re thankful for or excited about. You can also tell one person every week how thankful you are to them or for something that they’ve done. When you do this, those around you feel appreciated and noticed.

Lastly, get curious when things don’t go as expected. We all have hopes that our lives will turn out in a particular way. When you’re busy in comparing what you have with what you think you should have, you’re not able to appreciate what you have for what it is. It’s that simple. So let’s get real here. To pay attention to what actually is working in your day-to-day life, get clear on what’s important to you and learn how to find it in your present situation.

As you go forward, develop these three skills to start adding more actual enjoyment to your daily life. However, don’t worry if you have some days when you feel blue. It’s normal. Remember that you can always wake up tomorrow and ask yourself, “What would I like today to be?”

Bringing excitement back to everyday life
