              Limit Your Dictionary Use!

When you read in a foreign language, the first thing you need to do is to   (1)   your dictionary in an inconvenient place. Now you are probably thinking, “Doesn’t she mean a convenient place?” And the answer to that is, “No, I don’t, I mean a(n)  (2)  place.” The biggest mistake most people make when they are leaning to read in   (3)  language is that they depend too much on their   (4)  . Try to read for general meaning, and don’t worry about the words you don’t know. If you come across a new word, try to keep   (5)  ; often you can guess the meaning of the word from the contest. Take a look, for example, at the    (6)  two sentences:

The movie was ijjish. I laugh really hard.

Did you want to get your dictionary when you   (7)  the word “ijjish”? If you  (8)  “ijjish” up in the dictionary, you would be disappointed, because you cannot find “ijjish” in  (9)  dictionary. If, however, you continued reading, the next sentence made the meaning clear for you. Limiting your dictionary   (10)  will help you a lot in your language learning.
