There are some special traditions in Hawaii. People are very friendly to and always welcome visitors warmly. They give visitors a lei, a long necklace made of beautiful flowers. Men wear bright flowered shirts, and women often wear long flowered dresses. There are traditional Chinese, Japanese and Filipino holidays and all the holidays from the United States. They call Hawaii the Aloha States. Aloha means both hello and good-bye. It also means I love you.

Usually when people from different countries, races and traditions live together, there are serious problems. There are a few problems in Hawaii. However, in general, people have learned to live together in peace.

Hawaiians get most of their money from visitors, and most of the visitors come from the mainland and from Japan. There are also so many people living in Hawaii now that there are residential(居住的)areas where there used to be farms. Some of the big sugar and apple companies have moved to the Philippines, where they don’t have to pay workers as much money. The families of the first people who came from the U.S. mainland own the important banks and companies. Japanese are also buying or starting business.

All-inclusive resorts(全包式度假村) are a lot of fun and worry-free. But many who are not fond of them may think they are run almost in the same way: that of the large resort on the beach. Now perhaps it's time for that to change. These resorts will challenge everything you think you know about all-inclusives.

Resort One—Xaranna Okawango Delta Camp, Botswana

This safari lodge on an island isn't a hotel; it's an experience where everything—including the excellent pan-African food and the guided short trips (game drives, bush walk, river cruises, horse riding)—is included in the price of the stay. Guests can get close to fancy wildlife on both land and water.

                 Resort Two—BodyHoliday, LeSport, St. Lucia

Those even mildly interested in resorts in the Caribbean should consider BodyHoliday. All-inclusive fees cover a selection of wines and cocktails, all meals and water sports. But that's not what this all-inclusive is truly special for. It stands out because a daily spa treatment is also included, as are fitness classes.

                 Resort Three—Blackberry Farm, Tennessee

This elegant resort in the Appalachian Mountains is a wonderful destination offering farm-to-table food without any artificial chemicals. Meals are included from dinner on the day of arrival through lunch on the day of departure. There are also diverse activities offered from wine tasting to Brewery tours.

Resort Four—Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort, California

This resort, set on a 10,000-acre cattle ranch, has been a family-friendly place for holiday. Guests can expect charming, western-style rooms and a range of outdoor activities, including golfing, tennis, swimming and horseback riding. The buffet-style breakfast and dinners are included in the fees. There are also horseback rides where guests can head to a remote hillside location for wonderful sightseeing and a cowboy singing.

Backpacking in Europe is a wonderful experience for young people around the world. After high school or university, you can plan a European backpacking trip.

              Packing

As you plan the things you will carry, bring warm clothes and a raincoat or umbrella to deal with changing weather in different European countries. Europeans like dressing nicely, and good clothes will make you feel less like a dusty (满是灰尘的) backpacker. It is not worth taking the trouble to bring a hair dryer or shampoo, as you can buy basic necessities (必需品) in Europe.

              Hostels

The cheapest places to sleep when backpacking in Europe are hostels (where people can stay and eat fairly cheaply). Most hostels have a lot of information about low-cost ways to see local attractions, and many offer tours. The cost for hostel beds differs from country to country. In Paris, you might pay 30 euros, but in Bulgaria, you can get a bed for 10 euros. In general, hostels are more expensive in large, popular cities such as Paris, Rome and London.

                     _________

Many backpackers use rail passes (火车通票), which allow unlimited (不受限的) travel within country groups over a period of time. If you have the time to travel by train and will be traveling in a country group, this can be a good deal. Otherwise, you may consider point-to-point tickets, local trains, buses and airlines such as Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air, which offer cheap flights.

              Food

Eating out in Europe can come with a high cost, and the best way to cut your food budget (预算) is to cook meals in the shared kitchens in hostels. You can make several meals into picnics to take advantage of Europe’s parks. When shopping for your picnic, try and buy at a local market. You save some euros while supporting the local industry at the same time. When eating out, choose restaurants away from tourist attractions.

Camping is one of the most popular forms of outdoor activities. Now, most people are under too much pressure and like going outdoors to relax. Other activities like hunting and fishing, are often connected with camping trips.

It’s also a good idea to spend time camping with your family during a holiday. That will help you create some of the best memories with the family. Here are some things you have to consider while planning your camping trip.

The first thing that you need to think about is deciding the camping destination(目的地). For most people who like camping, the best place to choose is the place that they haven’t visited before. As soon as you get to your destination, there will be a lot you will have to do, such as putting up your tent. Of course, food is another necessary thing to be considered. You’d better carry some convenient food like biscuits, nuts and boiled eggs.

When all the things are done, fun activities should be planned. It’s a good chance for you to spend time with your family. Lots of open space is perfect when you want to do something as simple as letting your kids ride their bicycles. If your kids are old enough, activities like fishing and horse-riding are also good to choose. These are a few ideas about having fun camping. Once you get ready for it, you don’t need to worry about anything. Go ahead and be a happy camper.

I've been quite busy planning my holiday with my older brother, Colin, a few weeks before he goes to university. Well, now we're ready to go! We're going to visit so many exciting places and do lots of astonishing things. We will go to Africa first.

We will leave London on 15th July, and we'll be flying to Morocco. We're going to travel through the Sahara Desert. We'll be traveling by camel, with local guides, camping in tents and sleeping on the ground in our big, thick sleeping bags. I'll bring a torch with me so that I'll be able to see beautiful stars on clear nights in the dark. I'll have to sit on a camel for almost a week — how uncomfortable! I hope my camel likes me!

After that, we've going to travel down the River Nile. We'll start at Lake Victoria, where we'll go white-water rafting, which is quite dangerous, but very exciting! We have to wear special clothing, a helmet and a life jacket, just in case the raft gets turned upside down or sinks. Then we're going on a trip to see wild animals in Kenya. Since we'll be walking every day for almost two weeks, I'll need to buy a large, strong, light backpack to carry my supplies of food and water. During the day, we'll walk across the land, following the footprints of big animals such as elephants, lions and giraffes. We'll try to get as close as possible to the animals, even though they're dangerous, so that I can take some really good photos. But don't worry about me — our guides will have guns with them.

At last, we'll be moving on to Tanzania, where we're going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The African part of our trip will take about four weeks. Then we're going to the Himalayas.

It is often said that Western Europeans speak English. From traveling all through Europe, I know that this is not entirely true. Some regions of Europe have a 90% of English speaking rate, while in other parts, English is generally a tongue which is impossible to understand. The divide, it seems, lies with the Romance languages.

In Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, theNetherlands, and the rest of the Western European non-Romance language speaking regions, English seem to be understood and spoken just like the people’s first tongue. In Iceland, I have never experienced English was spoken so well and so widely by a non-native speaking country. And I have almost never met a Dutch person who did not speak English almost as well as my countrymen.

But when you move to south of Western Europe a little, something happens. English becomes a less useful language for travel. You just cross over the Romance language barrier and into Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, where English is spoken at a rate that does not seem to be much higher than in China, Latin America, or Southeast Asia.

Traveling through Europe and working at hotel around the world that are popular with Europeans, have given me a deeper view of their usage of foreign languages. The northern Europeans can often speak five or six languages, while the Romance speakers hardly know more than their birth tongue. And if you think that the Spanish and Italian are so similar that they can be understood by each other, I tell you that this is completely wrong. Spaniards and Italians don’t even understand each other. It is also not a fact that people from both of these countries can communicate in French; only those who put a high amount of effort into learning English or have lived abroad for years can speak English well.

People often say that French people really understand English but refuse to speak it, but from watching hundreds of French travelers over the years struggle with English abroad as well as friends in France trying in vain (徒劳的) to communicate with me, I know that this is not true. English is simply not widely spoken there outside the large cities.
