TIANJIN, Feb. 6 - The computer viruses known as "Kompu" and "Happytime" will attack China next week, but damage will be limited, predicted the Tianjin-based National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center on Sunday.

The center - the only anti-virus products testing and certification center authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security - raised the alert about the two viruses, which are expected to hit the country from Feb. 6 to 12.

The experts explained that the Wm_Kumpu virus originated in Estonia and appears on the computer screens with the messages "Mul on paha tuju!" and "Tahan kommi", which mean "I am in bad mood" and "Give me some candy".

The Vbs_Happytime, a virus in e-mail attachments, can eliminate.exe and .dll files in the computer hard disks.

Experts warned computer users who may log on to the Internet to receive mail or visit Internet chat rooms when they finish the week-long Spring Festival vacation and return to work on Monday.

The center advised computer system maintenance technicians to scrutinize their systems and upgrade anti-viral software as precautions against the viruses, before the routine working week starts on Monday.

Experts with the center said that there is no need to immediately format computer hard drives stricken with the viruses, since the viruses can not possibly damage all data on the hard disk in a short period of time. Computer users can use software and tools to restore the lost data.

The first capsule hotel(胶囊旅馆) which will be opened in Shanghai has attracted many travelers with a little money because of its prices.

The hotel has 68 "capsules", each 1.1-meters high, 1.1-meters wide and 2.2-meters long. The basic price is 28 Yuan ($4.22) per person, plus an additional 4 Yuan an hour. The hotel also offers a package of 88 Yuan for 24 hours.

All of the capsules are from Japan where capsule hotels started, and each is with independent clocks, lights, TV and wireless Internet service. The hotel also has a public lavatory(洗手间),shower room, smoking room and shared guest room.

"This is a huge bargain compared with other hotels in Shanghai," said Ta Zan, the owner of the hotel. Ta used to stay at capsule hotels in Tokyo during his college years and worked at a capsule hotel while he was doing his MBA in Germany in 2005, so he knows how they work and how to make guests feel comfortable.

He learned experience about capsule hotels from Japan but he has made some special changes based on Chinese guestsˈ habits. "In Japan capsule hotels are usually with bathtubs(浴缸), but in China people are more willing to take a shower, so we have the shower room," he said. He has also separated(分隔开) the capsules into three snoring (打鼾的) zones so that guests who often snore wonˈt disturb others. Like most of capsule hotels in Japan, the one in Shanghai is for men only.

But the idea of staying in such a compact space is not attractive to everyone. "I feel the idea is like putting a person in a coffin(棺材), and the price is also not that attractive. A bed at a youth hostel in Shanghai costs about 60 Yuan per night," said Wang Lei, a student from Beijing.

              (1) The first capsule hotels in the world appeared in _____.

              A. Shanghai B. Japan C. Germany D. America

              (2) If you stay in the capsule hotel in Shanghai for 8 hours, you will have to pay_____yuan.

              A. 28 B. 60 C. 68 D. 88

              (3) The capsule hotel in Shanghai is different from those in Japan because___________.

              A. it serves men as well as women
              B. its capsule is much larger

              C. it has a shower room
              D. it has no snoring zones

              (4) What does the underlined word "compact" mean?

              A. Dear. B. Cheap. C. Close and small. D. Clean.

              (5) We can know from the passage that___________ .

              A. no guest has ever stayed in the capsule hotel in Shanghai

              B. everybody thinks that the capsule hotel is a nice place to stay

              C. all the capsules of the hotel were made in China

              D. each capsule of the hotel has a private lavatory

              Terms and conditions

There are three categories—one for adults and two categories for schools: one for children aged 12–18 and one for children under 12.

In the adults category, the winner will receive £1,000 and two runners-up will each receive £250.  In the 12–18s and under-12s categories, the winners will each receive a Fire HD 8 Tablet (worth £600). The two runners-up in both categories will each receive a Kindle E-Reader.

The editorial team will pick a shortlist of entries, which this year will be published by our partner. Winners of the categories will have an opportunity to write a longer version of their stories for inclusion in the book.

The three best stories in each category will be posted online on February 27. The one with the most votes wins the top prize. Voting will close at 5 pm on March 19 and the winning entries will be published in our June issue.
