London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has many museums ranging from traditional to historical. If you are that type of person who has lots of interest in art and history then you must visit the museums in London.
                   Horniman Museum
The museum, set up by Victorian tea trader John Horniman in the 1860s, has to be one of the most child-friendly places in all London. Set in 16 acres of landscaped gardens, the Horniman provides various facilities for families, including weekend workshops and a Hands On Base where children can touch museum objects. There's an aquarium (水族馆), and the Nature Base explores the natural world with exhibits.
                   Natural History Museum
The museum divides its exhibits into four colour-coded zones, each with its own wonders. In the Blue Zone, a life-size model of a blue whale quietens all but the loudest of kids. Geology takes centre stage in the Red Zone. It's a dramatic elevator ascent through the centre of the earth. At the top you'll find the ground-shaking earthquake simulator (模拟器).
                   V&A Museum of Childhood
A lot of thought has gone into making this museum child-friendly; after all, it's a tease to see so many toys and not be able to play with them. To compensate, there are activity stations in each area with Lego, board games, rocking horses, a book corner and many other treats. In addition, the museum hosts plenty of kids' events at weekends and during school holidays.
                   Imperial War Museum
There are guns, planes and tanks in the main galleries, but there's far more to the museum. The family exhibition ‘A Family in Wartime' tells the story of how ordinary people braved the challenges of life at home during WWII through the eyes of the Allpress family, who lived in Stockwell. The Holocaust Exhibition, which traces the history in the death camps, is not advised for under-14s.

Recently Dr. Cleiman has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle. During the hours when you labor
through your work, you may say that you are"hot". That is true, the time of day when you feel most energetic
(full of energy) is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak(top). For some people the peak comes
during the forenoon (上午前). For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why
              this is so.
Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what this energy cycle means and which
cycle each member of the family has.
You cannot change your cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better."Habits can help," Dr.
Cleiman believes. If your energy cycle is low in the morning but you have an important job early in the day,
rise before your usual hour, and then you will work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a lazy yawn (哈欠) and stretch. Sit on the
edge of bed before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome searching for clean clothes by laying
              them out the night before.
              1. Dr. Cleiman did not explain in the passage ______.
              A. how people can make their life fit their cycle
              B. whether everyone has a daily cycle or not
              C. why people have their energy cycle of body at different times
              D. what will happen in the family if the couple fail to realize which cycle each member has
              2. For what reason may husbands and wives quarrel with each other?
              A. Either of them gets up late in the morning.
              B. Husbands and wives have different cycles of energy.
              C. Either of them wants to change the cycle of the other's.
              D. They do not know which cycle they themselves have.
              3. According to the passage,_______.
              A. one should get up earlier if he wants to work better at his low point in the morning
              B. one can change his cycle
              C. whenever you feel hot, your energy cycle reaches the highest
              D. your cycle must be in the morning if you can get up early
              4. Which of the following can save your energy in the morning?
              A. Getting up late.
              B. Jumping out of bed as quickly as possible.
              C. Looking for clean clothes.
              D. Sitting for a while before getting out of bed.
              5. Which of the following statements is wrong?
              A. If you know your cycle you can make good use of time.
              B. If you know your cycle you can change it to fit your life.

"How can I learn English well?" This is a question many students ask. In my opinion, the most effective
way is to learn lessons by heart. If you can recite the text and write it out, you've learned it fairly well. And
if you can retell, in your own words, what the lesson is about, you're a very successful learner indeed. Your
English will be quite perfect. This is a difficult task. However, if you try to learn by heart only part of each
lesson, you'll find it not so hard as you might have expected.
Learning this way, you will make rapid progress. Of course, writing is also necessary. It helps you a lot
on your way to success in English.
Equally important is to feel the language. You should be able to laugh at jokes and be shocked at bad news.
When using English, try to forget your mother tongue. Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your
way. So, never try to see English through translation.
              1. In the writer's opinion, the most effective way in learning English is _____.
              A. to practise speaking, writing and feeling it
              B. to memorize the English words and grammar
              C. to translate everything into your own language
              D. to forget your own native language
              2. "Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way." This sentence means that memorizing your
                  own language can _____.
              A. stop you mastering (having a good command of) English
              B. help you to study English well
              C. make English easy to learn
              D. help you notice mistakes
              3. "To feel the language" here means _____.
              A. to get the knowledge of English by touching
              B. to read and write English
              C. to experience the rich meaning of the language
              D. to translate English into your own by imagining

What would you think if you went back to school on Monday and there were no desks or chairs in your
              classroom?
That's what some fourth-and-fifth-graders at a school in Minnesota discovered earlier this year when they
took part in a research project to see if changing their classrooms would make them more active.
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic were concerned about reports that as many as half of American kids
could be seriously overweight-or obese-by the year 2010. So they set up a different kind of classroom, which
you might see in the future.
Instead of desks, the Elton Hills Elementary students had adjustable work stations where they could stand,
kneel on mats or sit on big exercise balls. Students were given laptops and iPods that allowed them to move
and learn at the same time.
Sensors (传感器) were attached to the kids' legs to calculate how many calories students burned in their
              new set-up.
Their typical school day was probably not anything like yours. One group of students downloaded an
audio file (有声文件) of their teacher reading a book; they listened to it while walking for exercise. Another
group took a spelling test by listening to their iPods.
Some students liked the freedom, but others missed the traditional classroom.
"I don't like standing up," Mariah Matrious said."My legs get tired, and I like sitting down." So, did the
experiment work? Researchers still are studying the data, but early results indicate that the kids did move
around more in the new classroom.
"It showed us that, given the opportunity to move, kids will move," said researcher Lorraine
              Lanningham-Foster.
That's important because studies have shown that even simple movement-climbing stairs instead of taking
an elevator (电梯), for example, or washing dishes by hand instead of loading the dishwasher-can be as
important as formal exercise when it comes to controlling one's weight.
              1. The school in Minnesota carried out the research _____.
              A. to punish the badly performed students
              B. to prevent children from being too fat
              C. to spare a lot of money for the state
              D. to meet the needs of different children
              2. The newly designed classrooms are different from the traditional ones EXCEPT that _____.
              A. there were no desks and chairs
              B. the students can move and learn at the same time
              C. students in different groups are given different tasks
              D. teachers don't necessarily instruct the students
              3. According to Lorraine Lanningham-Foster, _____.
              A. the research got some expected results
              B. the experiment needs further changes
              C. not everyone liked the freedom of this new style
              D. The students should be taught without classrooms
              4. What would be the best title for the text?
              A. No Desks or Chairs in the Classroom
              B. New Classrooms in the Future
              C. School Takes a Stand Against Obesity
              D. Washing dishes by hand in the Classroom

Nowadays everybody seems to think that they know English. Many people speak it but few speak it really
well. Practice is necessary in speaking English well.
Reading is also one of the things that will help you to speak English better. Read whenever you can and
whatever you like! Read papers and Internet sites that you like in English every day. Then, you will see that the
number of known words is increasing and you are able to speak with more skills. Then you will have made the

Going to England or an English-speaking country is a good choice, but many people cannot afford it. If
you cannot go, reading and speaking with your friends will also help you to practice your English. However, I
think it is very good to visit some English - speaking country to see and test your knowledge in everyday life.
You will understand the everyday usage of the language in its natural environment. There your level of English
is going to improve even faster. You ability to speak English is better. Nothing can match the excitement and
happiness when a native speaker tells you that your English is very good!
Finally, in order to speak English well, you must be persistent (坚持的) and do it every day. It is like
playing the piano. Pianists play it every day and so should you. Include English in your life and you will see
where it is going. Practice, practice! Read, write and improve your language skills and you are on you way
when you will be able to speak it with more and more confidence!

              A. How to Improve Your Language Skills
              B. How to Speak English Well
              C. Speaking English

              C. Stopping when you have a good basis of English.
              D. Looking up every unknown word when reading.

Many English learners have difficulty deciding what kind of English accent they want to have. A US
accent, perhaps modeled on the way a Hollywood star speaks? Or maybe you want to imitate (模仿) the
British accent of a BBC news reader?
Young British people find the US accent attractive while young US people like a British accent. Especially
when the person speaking is of the opposite sex! Let's listen to what they have to say. Stephen Yang, 17, from
London, UK A US accent is cute, especially when a girl speaks it. Whether it's Jessia Alba speaking or the
girl- next-door, the way US girls speak has a sweet tingle that is really sassy (时髦). A girl from Texas recently moved into our neighborhood. Her Texan twang (鼻音) had all the boys here on their knees within seconds of
              meeting her.
To me, accents reflect the attitudes, characteristics and lifestyles of the people. Jennifer Sun, 16, from
New Jersey, US From watching English actors like Daniel Radcliffe, my friends and I have developed a soft
spot for British men. Some are attracted to the qualities of English males, while others admire their sense of
              style.
Everyone, however, agrees that the most appealing aspect of an English man is his accent. For example,
many American girls watch Harry Potter movies over and over again just to listen to the actors speak. The
English accent seems almost like art.
              1. In Stephen Yang's opinion, accents just show_______.
              A. the beauty of the language
              B. how the language is spoken
              C. the cultural differences of the speakers
              D. the fashion of the day
              2. The underlined word "cute" probably means_______.
              A. strange
              B. exciting
              C. attractive
              D. fashionable
              3. Many American girls watch Harry Porter again and again in order to ________.

Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants
can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight.
Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to
live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us. If you look carefully at the plants around
you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Flowering
plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two,
three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without
seeds is the banana fruit. Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores (胚芽).
Spores are very small. Some spores are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores
are quite the same as seeds. When these spores are all on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new
              plants.
