Ecigarettes look hightech,so it’s easy to believe that they’re safe to smoke. Unfortunately, they’re not:Ecigarettes are just another way of putting nicotine into your body.

Electronic cigarettes are smoking devices often designed to look and feel like regular cigarettes. They are filled with a liquid that contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. A heating device in the ecigarette changes the liquid into a vapor (烟雾) the person breathes in.

Because ecigarettes don’t burn tobacco, people don’t breathe in the same amount of carbon monoxide as they would with a regular cigarette. But anyone using an ecigarette still gets an amount of nicotine and other chemicals.

Electronic cigarettes started out being marketed to smokers as a way to help them quit. Now ecigarettes have been mainstreamed. Scientists expect to see more information coming out about ecigarettes and their health effects.

Ecigarettes don’t fill the lungs with harmful smoke, but that doesn’t make them a healthy alternative to regular cigarettes. When you use an ecigarette, you’re still putting nicotine—which is absorbed through your lungs—into your system. In addition to being an addictive drug, researchers at the University of Utah used some animals to conduct a study to prove the toxic effects of nicotine. Later it was once even used as a chemical drug to kill some insects in agriculture.

Nicotine affects your brain, nervous system, and heart. It raises the blood pressure and the heart rate. The larger an amount of nicotine, the more a person’s blood pressure and heart rate go up. This can cause an arrhythmia(心律失常).In rare cases, especially when large amounts of nicotine are involved, arrhythmias can cause heart failure and death.

After its first effects disappear gradually, the body starts to desire nicotine. You might feel depressed or tired, and want more nicotine to feel lively again. Over time, nicotine use can lead to serious medical problems, including heart disease, blood clots, and stomach diseases.

“The child has become part of the management of family life,” says Adele Schwartz, research director for Stars for Kids, a children’s market-research firm. “This is a big role change in family life. Housework is changing. It used to be to take out the rubbish and walk the dog. This is a little bit bigger than that.”

Three-quarters of students between the ages of 8 and 14 say they have completed an online transaction (交易), according to a national survey on May 9. Nearly one-fourth of the 6,000 young people asked say they shop with their parents’ credit cards, 26 percent use gift cards, and 8 percent say they use their own credit card. Almost half say they help with electronic transactions because their parents are helpless online. One-third help because their parents don’t have enough time to shop.

“Kids do a large amount of comparison shopping,” Ms. Schwartz says, “including clothing, household items, family vacations, and even large items like a car.”

All this cyber-help “clearly gives kids a power that they might not have had before,” says Gary Rudman, in San Francisco. “Parents still make the decisions, but kids have more and more effect than ever before, because they have access to information. They are more involved with the household (家庭), so they have more effect on some of the decisions.”

Parents have different opinions about letting their children use credit cards online. Mr. Rudman Says, “Some parents are open to it, others are not for it.”

Like many parents, Mrs. Hanstein keeps a watchful eye on Jacob’s Internet use. “He loves to order something, but it’s always with our guidance. He doesn’t understand that a lot of the pop-up advertisement ‘You’ve won this’ or ‘You can get this for $1.’is a scam (骗局).”

Below is some advice on how to prevent cancer:

8 Ways to Avoid Cancer in Your Life

              1 Eat Blueberries

Aside from being a healthy and delicious snack, blueberries contain pterostilbene, which has important colon (结肠) cancer-fighting prosperities. But wait, it gets better. Blueberries also offer a large dose of vitamins C (14 milligrams per cup). So at breakfast, try to take in a cup and a half of blueberries in your cereal or yogurt, or mixed with other berries.

              2 Drink Pomegranate(石榴)Juice

The deep red juice of the pomegranate contains polyphenols, is oflavones and ellagic acid, which together create a powerful anticancer mixture. Most recently, researchers from the University of Wisconsin at Madison has discovered that 16 ounces of pomegranate juice per day also may inhibit the growth of lung cancer.

              3 Relax

Feeling stressed or worried? Find ways to relax and you may reduce your chances of developing cancer. Purdue University researchers tracked 1,600 men over 12 years and found that half of those with high levels of worry died during the study period. Only 20 percent of the optimists died before the study were completed, while 34 percent of the extremely anxious men died of some type of cancer. Instead of stressing about the past or future, focus on the present and relax!

              4Take Selenium(硒)

Selenium is well known for its cancer-fighting properties. In a study of almost 1,000 men, researchers from the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that when men with the lowest initial levels of selenium in their bodies received a daily supplement over a 4 year period, they cut their prostate(前列腺)cancer risk by a remarkable 92 percent. However, it is possible to get too much of a good thing, so monitor your intake of selenium-containing supplements, Brazil nuts, tuna, meats and grains carefully.

              5 Eat Sushi(寿司)

Seaweed may not be your idea of a great snack, but it is high in fiber, calcium and iron, and dry, roasted seaweed sheets used in sushi provide the additional benefits of vitamins A and C. Sushi rolls are also high in protein — a typical spicy tuna roll has only 290 calories but packs 24 grams of protein. So don`t skimp(节省)on the Sushi!

              6 Enjoy the Outdoors

Vitamin D causes early death of cancer cells. A study published in the American Journey of Clinical Nutrition reported that women who supplemented their diets with 1,000 international. Units of vitamin D every day had a 60 percent to 77 percent lower incidence of cancer ever a four-year period that did women taking a placebo(无效对照剂). Experts recommend supplementing your fun in the sun with 1,100 to 2,000IU of vitamin D each day.

              7 Breathe Clean Air

There’s no question that secondhand smoke kills. A recent American Journal of Public Health study showed that nonsmokers working in smoky places had three times the amount of carcinogen(致癌物质) in their urine(尿) than nonsmokers working in smoke-free locations. What’s worse, their levels of the carcinogen rose 6 percent for every hour worked. Nine states have banned smoking in all workplaces, bars and restaurants. The message is clear: Do whatever you can to avoid the cloud of smoke.

              8 Break a Sweat

Even a small amount of exercise can offer major cancer-fighting benefits. In a study of 29,110 men published in the International Journal of Cancer, men who exercised just once a week had a percent lower risk of metastasis(转移性) prostate cancer than men who didn’t work out at all. The better the frequency, duration and intensity of the exercise, the bigger the reduction in risk, according to the study.

Good health is the most valuable thing a person can have, but one cannot take good health for granted. It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape: One should eat right foods, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly (定期地).

Proper nutrition (营养) is important for good health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind of “fuel” (燃料). Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat. Eat plenty of foods high in protein (蛋白质) , like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins and minerals (矿物质). However, don't overeat. It is not helpful to be overweight.

Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over a long period of time a little amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality. Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you do, your body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp.

Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular exercise program, you will probably increase your lifespan (寿命). Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming, bicycling, running and so on are good examples. Sports are not only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting, too.

If everybody, were to eat the right foods, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.

To an American, China feels verydistant, very different, and very difficult. You hearbizarre(奇谈) tales, and see American companies fail in China, so you guess Chinese Internet users must be very different from you.

But in fact, the Chinese Internet user is a lot like you -- Hebrowses, searches, and plays. She usesSNS,IM, and mobile apps. They all love smart phones, Angry Birds, and iPads. But there are also significant differences between Chinese and American Internet users. Can you guess the single biggest difference?

Culture? Expressiveness? Mobility? Governmentregulations? No, the answer is age which is beyond our imagination! The average Chinese internet user is almost young enough to be the average American user’s son / daughter!

That is why Chinese users tend to use less email and more IM, less e-commerceand more games, less search and more blogging.

Many people believe that paper started with the ancient Egyptians. However, this is not exactly true. Instead, 5,000 years ago, Egyptians used a material called papyrus, which was made from the stems (茎) of river plants. They put these flat pieces together to create a larger flat sheet (薄片), on which Ancient Egyptians wrote like paper.

But the paper we know today did not exist until 3,000 years later. It was created in China. No one knows who first invented paper. But history does tell us about one man who improved the process. It was in the year 105. A man named Cai Lun began to use many materials to make paper. He took the outer covering of a tree, pieces of net and cloth, broke these materials down into very small pieces and mixed them with water. Then he pressed out the water, and all that was left was a thin sheet of paper.

Paper quickly spread to other areas of the world. In the Middle East, people made paper thicker and also made it easier to produce quickly. From the Middle East, paper travelled to Europe and then the Americas. For many years paper cost a lot of money and time to create. But in the 19th century, people began to create paper from wood.

Paper changed the way people lived. Long ago, when paper was difficult to make, people only used paper for special purposes. Government officials would write important laws on it. Explorers drew maps of the world on it. But common people did not use it. As paper became easier to make, it was used for more things. People wrapped (包裹) it around gifts. Paper was also used as money. Today people use paper for even more things.

Tokyo is one of those places that you can love and hate at the same time. In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to be. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast when they can. But in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different when one wants to walk.

At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London’s Oxford Street. But the streets near Ginza (银座) in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them.

The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the night-clubs are closing and everybody wants to go home. There are 35,000 night-clubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty.

Most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time. On a London train you would see everybody reading a newspaper. In Tokyo trains everybody in a seat seems to be asleep, whether his/her journey is long or short.

In Tokyo, I stood outside the station for five minutes. Three fire engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now. Instead, I am surprised at myself: I must go there next year on business. I know I hate the overcrowded city. But I feel like a man who is returning to his long-lost love.

              The Key to Your Health

A car needs gas to run and your body also needs food to work for you. Eating the right kind of food is very important. It can help your body grow strong to take care of what you eat.

There are four main food groups altogether. The dairy group has food like milk, cheese and sour milk. The other three groups are the meat and fish group, the fruit and vegetable group, and the bread and rice group. Each meal should have at least one food from all four main groups. With all these food together, you will be given enough energy during the day.

It is easy to get into the bad eatinghabits. You may eat your breakfast in a hurry to get to school on time. Or you may not have time for a good lunch. It may seem easy to. But you will find yourself tired in these days and you can not think quickly.

Watching what you eat will help your body remain healthy and strong. It is also good to take some exercises. It will help you eat more if you take a walk or play games in the open air. Having a good eating habit with some exercise is the key to your health.
