Green living is living in a way that helps take care of the earth. It also means using only what you really need of the earth’s resources. Here are some easy ways you can reduce pollution and protect the environment.

              Reuse shopping bags.

Carry your own bag and use it over and over again. Many stores sell bags that you can use for shopping so you don’t have to take a plastic bag from the store. If you have plastic bags at home, don’t throw them away.   (1)

                (2)

When you buy things that have less packaging, you are keeping garbage out of the landfills. For example, instead of buying a box of cookies that holds eight little bags of cookies inside, buy a box that doesn’t divide the cookies into little bags. Take the time to make your own portions (食物的份额) in a reusable bowl at home, and save the extra garbage from polluting the earth!

              Use less water.

Keepthe water OFF when you are brushing your teeth.  (3)   Sometimes, depending on where you live, it may seem like there is an endless supply of water and so it doesn’t really matter how much you use. But this isn’t true. The water supply isn’t endless because not all water is clean water.

                (4)

When you use a piece of paper, you are using a natural resource from the earth. If you use a recycled piece of paper, you are protecting our trees and water.

              Plant a tree.

Planting a tree can have many benefits!   (5)   It can stop erosion(侵蚀). Trees help keep the air clean and they make oxygen that we can breathe.

              (1) ______

Learning English online is an effective way to improve your English. But with any type of learning you need to be prepared. This passage will give you advice and tips on how to get the most out of your online lessons.

                (1)

This is an obvious point but also the most important one. A computer, a good Internet connection and a headset are what you will need to take classes online. A web camera is also pretty important. Make sure that your computer is turned on, that everything is plugged in correctly and that you have tested the connection. Doing this before the class means that you will be ready when the lesson starts.

               Take the classes somewhere quiet.

                 (2)   Trying to listen and participate(参与) in English classes is very difficult when there is noise around you. So find a quiet room and make sure that no one disturbs you while you are taking your lesson.

                 (3)

When grammar or anything else is being taught, make sure that you understand it. You won’t need to practice it at this time; just make sure that everything is clear. If you don’t understand what is being taught, ask your teacher to explain it again. Your teacher will be more than happy to deal with whatever puzzles you.

               Practice speaking English.

Every class is an opportunity to practice your English speaking with a native and qualified teacher. Try to allow the conversation to flow by listening and talking in a natural way.   (4)   The teacher should note the mistakes and correct them at a later time.

               Relax.

Come to class feeling relaxed and excited.  (5)  Come into the class excited about learning English. You will be able to get more out of the class this way.

As you know, it is quite a different experience being around positive people versus

negative ones. If you are striving to be more positive yourself, here are 5 ways you can do so:

              1“Failure is part of learning.”

                      (1)   They understand that failure is an event, and doesn't define who they are. Negative people are emotionally disabled by failure because they allow it to define who they are. They fail to understand that it's part of the learning and growing process.

              2“I can do hard things.”

Positive people love to be challenged.  (2)   Positive people embrace difficulty, and look for ways to overcome them. Negative people love the easy road. Because obstacles increase the likelihood of failure, they try to avoid them like the plague. To negative people, hard times don’t make you, they break you.

              3  (3)

Positive people focus on giving their best effort, regardless of the situation. They understand that there are many things they cannot control, but effort is not one of them. No matter what, the positive person strives to give their best even if it isn’t much. Negative people want things to come easy to them. If they have to try hard, they believe they just aren’t good at it and give up. They are more likely to give their absolute best if they know people are watching them.

              4“What can I do better?”

Positive people embrace feedback. Because they are always striving to get better, they are open to learn anything that will enhance their skill set. Negative people get offended when they receive correction or feedback.  (4)

              5“You’re so good!”

Positive people like to spread positivity.  (5)   Negative people say, “Why would I compliment people for things they are supposed to do? What they don't understand is, it’s not about the compliment, it’s about showing the other person that you notice them. A simple compliment can strengthen relationships and motivate the person to do even better. Positive people don't underestimate the power of encouraging words.

              (1) ________
              A. They pay close attention to when others do well, and they are quick to tell them.
              B. Instead of seeing it as means to improve, they interpret feedback as a sign of their incompetence.
              C. “I give power to what I focus on.”
              D. “I always give my best.”
              E. Positive people view failure as an opportunity to learn and get better.
              F. They understand that there is no growth without struggle.
              G. Positive people are inspired by the success of others, they look at those who are excelling and ask themselves the question, “What can I learn from them?”

Ways to Track Your Personal Health Information on Your Phone

Your smartphone is a powerful and flexible tool for acquiring information related to your health.   (1)   There are other various ways that allow the user several approaches for acquiring health information.

                 (2)   The sensors(传感器) built into your phone can automatically acquire selected types of health information when they are linked to suitable apps. Thus, the apps take advantage of the phone’s stock hardware to deliver specialized health-related functions.   (3)   Numerous apps use the phone’s GPS to track outdoor activities like running or walking. A handful of apps also use the accelerometer (加速度计) to track indoor activities like treadmill running, which would be impossible to measure with the GPS.

Acquire information with a separate health sensor. The smartphone itself is a wonder of modern technology.   (4)   Here are a few devices you can connect with your phone to track health information: Activity trackers like the fitbit, blood pressure monitor, heart rhythm monitor. Comprehensive platforms like Apple’s Health app make it easy to tie all this information together.

Link to your electronic health records. Much of your health information may be stored in electronic health records maintained by your health care providers.   (5)   You can access your health records through a patient portal(入口) on your phone or download it with the Blue Button function.

How can I carry out a group project?

Group projects can feel so overwhelming (使人不知所措的), especially when people don’t cooperate and follow through. “  (1) ”To follow this wise advice from expert Julie Hochheiser Ilkovich, simply break down that huge project into smaller jobs that can be tracked. Here’s exactly how to do it:

1)List it.The day the project is assigned, immediately identify the end goal.   __(2)__  This should include everything from minor tasks to major ones.

              2) Schedule it.   __(3)__ This should include meetings, tasks, and deadlines. Assign each person a color and highlight each task with those colors, so it’s clear who is doing what.

3)Track it.As a team, decide on a project manager who will keep everyone on track, and who you agree is allowed to call team members out if they’re slacking (懈怠的). (Advice on how to choose:    __(4)__ )

As stressful as group work is, it can actually be beneficial in the long run. At first, groups that work well together can achieve much more than individuals working on their own. And being part of a team will help you develop your interpersonal skills. Also, collaborating with others will help identify your own strengths and weaknesses.    __(5)__

              (1) _____________
              A. Give feedback on group processes to groups.
              B. Then list what needs to get done to accomplish it.
