              Seek Out a Unique BeachVISIT
Oregon. For sun and fun away from the crowed beaches pf Florida, check out the Oregon coast and its 363 miles of gorgeous shoreline, stretching from the Columbia River south to the redwood forests of California.Every beach is public and free."The coast is a perfect place to watch sea lions sun themselves or simply see the mighty Pacific weaves crash in the sunset followed by a seafood feast in one of the busy fishing communities located between the coves(小海湾),"says Bramblett.July and August aren't peak gray whale migration season, but there's still a good chance you could catch a glimpse of some of the 200 whales that spend the summers off the Oregon coast.
              SLEEP
Next to a lighthouse.Imagine yourself an ancient mariner when you book a room overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast in Yachats,Oregon. The working lighthouse, which dated to 1894,cast a bright beam 21 miles out to sea, making it the brightest light on the Oregon coast. The cliff-top rooms at the Light Keeper's home nearby aren't cheap-you'll sell out up to﹩385 for a weekend night during peak season (price includes a seven-course breakfast).
              BEWARE
Dangerous currents Unless you love cold water (or wear a wet suit),you may not wait to venture into the sea off the Oregon coast, even during the summer. But if you do,be prepared for the U.S.Lifesaving Association.Swim parallel to the beach until you're no longer being pulled out to sea, then swim diagonally(成对角线地) toward the shore.
              BRING
Baby powder.Use a generous amount of baby powder to remove sand from your hands, feet or hair. The powder quickly absorbs moisture, allowing sand to fall off easily.

              (1) What is suggested by the leaflet if you want to enjoy your stay at the beach? ______
              A. Avoid wearing wet suits.
              B. Never dive into the cold water off the coast.
              C. Bring baby powder to protect your skin from sand scratches.
              D. Don't swim straight toward the shore when there're dangerous currents.
              (2) Oregon coast will provide you with all the following experiences except ______ .
              A. a perfect view of sea lions
              B. a mariner like stay in the more than 100-year-old lighthouse
              C. a seafood feast in the popular local community

Where to eatThere are a number of different places to eat in the shopping center.
The Noodle House is small, but very popular. The noodle soup tastes very good, and the fried noodles with roast pork are delicious.Everything is clean and the staffs are friendly.Prices are good too,but yu may have to wait quite a long time as the restaurant is so busy.
Roma is a new restaurant. It is very smart, but the pizzas here do not taste good.We didn't eat our fish as it smelled bad.The waiters looked angry and we thought it was very expensive. This restaurant has to improve.
The Tokyo Restaurant has been here for many years, and the staffs bow to customers when they enter and are very kind. The fish is very fresh and most of the food is delicious. The amount of food you get is quite small, but it always looks nice on the plate.
The Golden Dragon is a large Chinese restaurant. It has a lot of different food. The sweet and sour pork is excellent,te Beijing Duck is famous, and the winter melon soup is good.Go there for a really good meal, but expect to pay a lot.Prices are high.
The Come in Coffee Shop is very modern. There are many sorts of coffee and if you like sweet things, wait until you taste their cakes and cookies! You can also have sandwiches--I enjoyed the egg sandwiches a lot. They have modern music playing, but it is very noisy,so it is quite difficult to have a conversation.

There are a lot of products out there that make your life easier. Some, however, are a little sillier than others-so much that they seem like joke products. Here are a few products that sound crazy, but actually rule.
              Sleep Phones
It's hard to imagine something sillier than a music-playing headband you wear while you sleep, but they exist-and are quite popular.Sleep Phones won't give you the highest quality sound in the world, but if you prefer to fal asleep to music, they're far more comfortable than normal headphones. While they're a bit expensive, they might be perfect for you. There's also a wireless version (版本) if you prefer.
              Onion Goggles
If cutting onion brings on the waterworks no matter what you try,it's time for desperate measures. We tested a bunch of methods for avoiding onion tears, and found the best solutions came down to cutting the onion under a vent (通风孔),or wearing these stylish and awesome goggles.
              Lock Laces
There're some great ways to tie your shoes better, but if you long for the laceless shoes of your childhood days,Lock Laces are a pretty good choice. They're basically elastic (有弹性的) laces that remove the need to tie your shoes.Sure, people will make fun of you,but you can make fun of them after they trip over their own untied laces.Or you can make your own slip-on shoes with elastic tubing.
              2D-Glasses
Hate 3D-movies,but have to go to one?The difference between 2D-glasses and 3D-glasses lies in their lenses (镜片).Each lens of 2D-glasses blocks the same picture,so each eye gets the same picture, while each lens of 3D-glasses blocks a different picture,so each eye gets a different picture which the brain interprets as 3D.Now you have a pair of glasses that can save you from the headache caused by wearing 3D-glasses which are popular in our movie theaters. You can buy them or make a pair for yourself.

              (1) What do we know about Sleep Phones? ______
              A. There are two versions.
              B. They're comfortable but unhealthy.
              C. They give you the best quality sound.
              D. They're cheaper than other headphones.
              (2) The underlined part"brings on the waterworks"in the text probably means ______ .
              A. makes your eyes water
              B. makes your fingers hurt
              C. destroys your water pipes
              D. adds to your washing work
              (3) What is the advantage of Lock Laces? ______
              A. They are strong and lasting.
              B. They help you walk comfortably.
              C. They are stylish and eco-friendly.
              D. They save you from tying your shoes.
              (4) Compared with 3D-glasses,2D-glasses ______ .
              A. are cheaper and thinner
              B. won't give you a headache
              C. let you see a different picture
              D. are more popular in movie theaters.

While astronauts in space get to do many exciting things, they miss out on ordinary things that we will take for granted-being able to walk on firm ground, hanging out with family and digging into a slice of hot steaming pizza.Though not much can be done about the first two things, there may soon be a solution to the third one, thanks to this cool 3-D pizza printer.
About a year ago,NASA offered $125,000 to Anjan Contractor,a 3-D technology expert,to build a device that would allow astronauts to make pizza on demand. The mechanical engineer promised that his invention would produce pies in large quantities that looked, tasted and even smelled like pizza made in common ovens.
Late last year, the engineer presented a video of his first prototype(原型) that begins by creating a single slice of dough that is cooked and printed at the same time. Then comes the tomato sauce--a mix of tomato powder, oil and water and finally,a protein slice that resembles cheese. While the video doesn't show the baking process, the inventor says that once the pizza is printed,it can be ready to be consumed in 7 seconds.
While the pie in the video looks delicious enough to attract any pizza lover,Anjan Contractor is far from ready for astronauts. That's because he still has to find a solution to make the food container in the printer last for 30 years.Though that may sound unrealistic, actually it is not.
Anjan Contractor believes that the only way that is possible is that the water is removed from all the ingredients and then they are reduced to the powder form. This,as you can imagine, will not be so easy. But,while the printer may not be ready for space,it certainly looks ready enough for people on earth.Hopefully,NASA and Contractor will consider selling it to those not fortunate enough to go to Mars!

              (1) NASA offered $125,000 to Anjan Contractor mainly to ______ .
              A. create some new type of 3-D printer
              B. attract more companies to work for NASA
              C. help astronauts in space enjoy fresh pizza one day
              D. produce pizza in large quantities to earn great profits
              (2) The biggest challenge that Anjan Contractor is faced with now is probably that ______
              A. he has no money left to go on with his research
              B. the pizza doesn't seem appetizing(令人开胃的) to pizza lovers
              C. he has no way to make pizza that can last for thirty years
              D. he cannot make the food container last for decades
              (3) What's the best title of the passage? ______
              A. NASA is trying its best to help astronauts
              B. Astronauts may soon be able to enjoy steaming hot pizza
              C. NASA is working on making pizza for common people
              D. A 3-D pizza printer has been used to make pizza.

Scientists say they have discovered a possible cure for all five known Ebola viruses.Antibodies(抗体) that are used in the cure were discovered in the blood of a survivor.
Kartik Chandran of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine helped discover the antibodies. They are described online in the journal Cell.Chandran says studies of the antibody in non-human primates(非灵长类动物) have shown positive results. He says he is optimistic that the antibodies can be used to protect and treat people, too.
The virus was given the name Ebola because the first recorded outbreak of the disease took place along the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)-then known as Zaire-in 1976.
Since then, there have been about 24 Ebola outbreaks in Africa, including one happening now in the DRC.Nine people have been infected and three people have died. The most recent Ebola epidemic took place from 2013 to 2016.It killed more than 11,000 people and infected 29,000in Liberia,Guinea and Sierra Leone.
During that epidemic, researchers were studying an anti-Ebola drug called Zmapp.Doctors began using it even before the study was complete.Zmapp uses antibodies discovered in mice. They use the body's natural immune system to fight infection. If the drug is given within five days after Ebola infection symptoms appear,it can cure the disease.
              Promising results
But researcher Kartik Chandran says Zmapp is effective only against Ebola Zaire. It does not fight the other four known Ebola viruses.
Chandran says the recently discovered human antibodies attack and destroy all five of the viruses.Researchers say the antibodies work by interfering with a process that the disease uses to infect and multiply inside cells.Chandran says scientists discovered the antibodies in just six months.
The drug company Mapp Pharmaceutical Incorporated is now testing the antibodies in monkeys that have been exposed to Ebola.Spokespeople for the company say the antibodies have so far been safe and effective.
Chandran says he hopes the antibodies can also be tested in people soon. And,he says,he hopes they can finally be used both as a treatment and as a vaccine (疫苗) to prevent people from getting Ebola in the first place.
