              请阅读下面短文,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

According to a survey, for men and women aged 65 and over in China, only about 13 percent are living with their children. Many older people live in nursing homes or simply alone. It is rare these days to come across a family where an elderly parent is living with one of their adult children.

This big shift towards the elderly living alone or in institutions has caused one of the greatest increases in unhappiness and loneliness the world has ever seen. Those elderly people living alone are three times as likely to feel lonely as others. They are also more likely to suffer declining physical and mental abilities. Consequently they are more likely to enter nursing homes.

One of the most depressing figures is that 21 percent of residents in care homes are so depressed that they wish they were dead. Those of us who have visited people in residential homes will not find this figure so hard to believe, but it is a wake-up call to those children who tell themselves: “ Oh, Granny will be perfectly happy in a home.”

              写作内容:

              1. 用约30个单词写出上文概要;

              2. 用120个单词分析这一现象产生的原因并就如何让老年人更幸福的生活谈谈你的看法。

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Dreaming about whether you would want to read minds, see through walls, or have superhuman strength may sound silly, but it actually gets to the heart ofwhat really matters in your life.

Every day in our work, we are inspired by the people we meet doing extraordinary things to improve the world.

They have a different kind of superpower that all of us possess: the power to make a difference in the lives of others.

We’re not saying that everyone needs to contribute their lives to the poor. Your lives are busy enough doing homework, playing sports, making friends, seeking after your dreams. But we do think that you can live a more powerful life when you devote some of your time and energy to something much larger than yourself. Find an issue you are interested in and learn more. Volunteer or, if you can, contribute a little money to a cause. Whatever you do, don’t be a bystander. Get involved. You may have the opportunity to make your biggest difference when you’re older. But why not start now?

Our own experience working together on health, development, and energy the last twenty years has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. It has changed who we are and continues to fuel our optimism about how much the lives of the poorest people will improve in the years ahead.

              (1) What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 refer to?
              A. Your life style.
              B. Your life value.
              C. Your trouble in life.
              D. Your life experience.
              (2) Why does the author say they are inspired every day?
              A. They possess different kinds of superpowers.
              B. They have got the power to change the world.
              C. Some people around them are making the world better.
              D. There are many powerful people in their life and work.
              (3) What does the author stress in Paragraph 5?
              A. Learning more and contributing more to a cause.
              B. Rising above self and acting to help others.
              C. Working hard to get a bigger opportunity.
              D. Trying your best to help the poor.
              (4) What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
              A. The author believes the lives of the poorest will get better.
              B. Much more progress will be made in the near future.
              C. The work on health is the most valuable experience.
              D. People’s efforts have been materially rewarded.

There is an English saying: "Laughter is the best medicine." Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now, however, doctors have begun to investigate laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter really can improve people's health.

Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise.  It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and breathing. It also works several groups of muscle in the face, the stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.

Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effects of pain on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group that tolerated pain for the longest time was the one that listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of natural chemical in the brain which decreases both stress and pain.

As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they help to improve their patients' condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.

              (1) For what purpose did the doctors carry out the tests?
              A. To study the functions of some medicine on the human body.
              B. To study the similarities between laughter and physical exercises.
              C. To study the relationship between laughter and human health.
              D. To study the effects of some funny films on the human body.
              (2) What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
              A. The duller the radio program sounds, the lighter stress the patient feels.
              B. The more natural chemical his brain produces, the more the patient laughs.
              C. The more amusing the radio program sounds, the less painful the patient feels.
              D. The more the patient laughs, the longer the natural chemical lasts.
              (3) Which is the closest in meaning to the underlined word "tolerated"?
              A. Bore.    B. Split.    C. Abandoned.    D. Spilt.
              (4) How does the doctor in a laughter clinic usually treat patients?
              A. By providing them laugh medicine.
              B. By only encouraging them to laugh.
              C. By forbidding their crying.
              D. By amusing them to laugh.

The town I live in is about to put cameras at all traffic lights to catch people who run red lights. It   (1)   me of how many people Iˈve seen who take the yellow light as a signal to go faster. I also canˈt   (2)   why people donˈt move when the traffic light has turned green. Above all, there are those   (3)   situations in which someone doesnˈt even   (4)   that the light is red, and just keeps going. That is why so many accidents happen! All these situations make me    (5)   about the purpose of traffic lights.

However, itˈs even more   (6)   to imagine letting people make their own   (7)   at crowded crossroads. Do the biggest cars get to go first? Who decides who goes next?   (8)   I guess I do like the idea of a system to   (9)   traffic. And Iˈll do my best to   (10)   the traffic rules: to go, to be   (11)  , and to stop when Iˈm supposed to.

It occurs to me that my   (12)   have done much the same for me in   (13)   teaching me how to live. They have given me many   (14)   lights: to get along well with others, to listen and talk to them, to help others, and to live with   (15)   and purpose. They have also given me some red lights so that my   (16)   doesn’t go astray (误入歧途): not to be greedy, to keep my temper, and to control my desires. And there also have been some yellow caution lights: to watch how much I drink, to keep control of my behavior, and to   (17)   school regularly and work hard.

If I obey these rules, my life will be as   (18)   as it can be. Just as Iˈm wise to pay attention to the traffic lights when Iˈm walking   (19)   the street, Iˈm wise to pay attention to the "life   (20)  " given to me by my parents.

A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves—the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.

We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too ashamed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves loud is a healthy habit.

This “self-talk” helps us encourage ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”

Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably answer in a similar manner. Harsh (刻薄的) and critical language will most likely cause the clerk to be defensive.

Words have power because of their lasting effects. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.

Words have power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours.

              (1) There is no need for us to feel ashamed when we talk to ourselves because _________.
              A. it does no harm to have “self-talk” when we are alone
              B. talking to ourselves always gives us courage
              C. almost everybody has the habit of talking to themselves
              D. we can benefit from talking to ourselves
              (2) The underlined part in the third paragraph means that we should also timely ________.
              A. praise ourselves
              B. give ourselves amusement
              C. make ourselves relaxed
              D. remind ourselves
              (3) The author would probably hold the view that _________.
              A. encouraging words are sure to lead to kind offers
              B. it is better to think twice before talking to others
