Are you the kind of person who likes staying in unusual places? If the answer is "yes", then try the world's coldest hotel in Jukkasjarvi in the north of Sweden. But go in winter or all you'll find is a pool of water, because the hotel melts every spring!

The man who runs the Aortic Hall Hotel is Nils Yngve Bergqvist. He is also the man whose idea it was. He built his first hotel for an art show in 1991 and he designed the present hotel---over 200 square metres ---himself. It took workmen about two months to put 1,000 tons of snow onto a wooden board. As the weather got colder, the snow froze and then they removed the board. The whole building and everything in it is made of snow---except for the wooden front door. There's a theatre, a jazz club, a radio station and a large ice bar. As you can imagine, hot drinks are popular with the guests! The rooms have no doors, there is no furniture, no heating and everyone sleeps on ice beds. But the 800 people who have stayed at the hotel this winter seem to like it. If you want to stay in one of the ten ice rooms, it will cost you about £30 a night. You won't be very comfortable, but you will receive a survival certificate (生存能力证书) from the manager!

When the winter is over, Nils holds his competition every year to predict the day that the hotel will fall. The person that guessed the day correctly last year received a large painting from an Aortic Hall show. Bergqvist's ice hotels are becoming world-famous and he loves his work. He's already excited about his next project---an ice hotel that will be bigger and better, he says.

              A. it is not open to guests at any other time

              C. it is much cheaper than at any other time

              D. the hotel is more beautiful in winter

              (2) What do we know about the ARTic Hall Hotel?

              B. It has a wooden base.

              C. It is completely made of snow.
              D. It is designed by Nils’ friend.

              C. About£300.  D. At least£100.

              (4) What would be the best title for the passage?

              C. Winter Exhibition  D. Cold Enjoyment

Southwest of the Philippines is the third largest island in the world, Borneo. Sabeh is in the northeast and is one of the few remaining tropical wildernesses. A land of thick jungles, tall mountains and empty beaches. For nearly a hundred years, Sabeh was known as British North Borneo but in 1963 became part of Malaysia. It has since developed into one of the hottest destinations in Asia.

The main attraction here are the orang-utans. Orang-utan means “man of the forest.” They can be shy creatures so the best chance of seeing them is in the areas where they are fed. Many of these apes(猩猩) have returned to the wild but there’s not enough forest or fruit to support them so the foundations put out food to help them survive. Orang-utans used to spread across South Asia but are now only found here and in Sumatra. Orphaned orang-utans or those that have been kept as pets are brought here so they can learn to look after themselves. Eventually they’ll be released back into the wild. Direct contact between visitors and the apes is actively discouraged. They don’t want the orang-utans to become domesticated(驯养).

The coastal area is very flat so one of the most convenient ways to explore is by bicycle. You’ll need to start early in the morning to avoid the heat. Almost every town in Borneo has its own church and mosque(清真寺). By no means are all the religious buildings ancient. Even in the most remote areas, you’ll find impressive modern architecture. In the evening, there are varied cultural shows to provide entertainment. You can try some traditional bamboo dancing and bravely leave your ankle at the mercy of the locals.

The highlight of any trip to Borneo has to be the mountain Kinabalu. You need to allow two full days to conquer the mountain. If you don’t want to climb the peak, there are plenty of fascinating jungle walks around the lower and more gentle slopes.

With its wild vegetation, jungle animals and huge mountains, Borneo is indeed a land full of adventure.

If you have a chance to go to Finland, you will probably be surprised to find how “foolish” the Finnish people are.

Take the taxi drivers for example. Taxis in Finland are mostly high-class Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. You can go anywhere in one, tell the driver to drop you at any place, say that you have some business to attend to, and then walk off without paying your fare. The driver would not show the least sign of anxiety.

The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also serve outside diners. Hotel guests have their meals free, so they naturally go to the free dining rooms to have their meals. The most they would do to show their good faith is to wave their registration card to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can easily use any old registration card to take a couple of friends to dine free of charge.

The Finnish workers are paid by the hour. They are very much on their own as soon as they have agreed with the boss on the rate(价钱). From then on, they just say how many hours they have worked and they will be paid accordingly(相应地).

With so many loopholes(漏洞) in everyday life, surely Finland must be a heaven to those who love to take “petty advantages”. But the strange thing is, all the taxi passengers would always come back to pay their fare after they have attended to their business; not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms. And workers always give an honest account of the exact hours they put in. As the Finns always act on good faith in everything they do, living in such a society has turned everyone into a real “gentleman”.

In a society of such high moral practice, what need is there for people to be on guard against others?

              (1) While taking a taxi in Finland, _____.
              A. a passenger can never be turned down by the taxi driver wherever he wants to go
              B. a passenger pays two US dollars for a taxi ride
              C. a passenger can go anywhere without having to pay the driver
              D. a passenger needs to provide good faith demonstration (证明) before leaving without paying
              (2) We know from the passage that big hotels in Finland ________.
              A. are mostly poorly managed
              B. provide meals for any diners
              C. provide free wine and charge for food
              D. provide meal for only those who live in the hotels
              (3) Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
              A. The workers in Finland are paid by the hour.
              B. The workers are always honest with their working hours.
              C. The bosses in Finland are too busy to check the working hours of their employees.
              D. The workers and their bosses will make an agreement in advance about the pay.
              (4) The word “those” in the last but one paragraph probably refers to _____.
              A. people who are worthy of trust
              B. people who often have meals in big hotels
              C. people who often take taxis
              D. people who are dishonest
